Dead Island 2 Release Date

Originally set for February 2023, Dambuster Studios and Deep Silver are now saying that the release date can suffer a delay to April 21, 2023.

Addressing the recent Dead Island 2 delay, Dambuster states “The irony of delaying Dead Island 2 is not lost on us, and we share your disappointment. With only 12 short weeks remaining in development, we need to take our time so that we can launch a game we’re proud to release. For those of you who have been waiting for years, thank you for sticking with us.”

Many of you have been wondering if Dead Island 2 would be among the upcoming PC games worth keeping an eye on. And we are happy to confirm that it will be available through Epic Store. Other platforms for Dead Island 2 include PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One as well.

Dead Island 2 Storyline

Dead Island 2 begins with an evacuation plane taking you and other survivors away from the devastated streets of Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, your plane crashes, leaving you to navigate through the rubble on your own.

Your character gets bit during a fight with a zombie but manages to avoid becoming one – suggesting that they must be immune to the virus responsible for turning others into monsters. You soon learn this is true as other survivors succumb to its effects too.

Your mission now is to rally other survivors and carve a path through the deserted city in order to reach government control and secure rescue for your entire team.

Dead Island 2 Gameplay

Dead Island 2, the eagerly-awaited sequel to 2011’s beloved first game, Dead Island, brings back many beloved elements with an extensive redesign. According to game director David Stenton, the map now consists of distinct “districts.” Combat remains focused on melee hack-and-slash action but has significantly evolved since 2011.

We were given a unique chance to test out two versions of Dead Island 2’s test build, starting with our initial Dead Island 2 hands-on experience.

Already we would appreciate Dambuster’s meticulous effort in crafting their FLESH system; its grisly yet anatomically precise graphics aim to elicit both humor and disgust reminiscent of 80s horror movies, adding a welcome lighthearted touch to otherwise gory gameplay.

Players can collect skill cards to customize their decks, providing them with a customizable set of abilities that can be changed at any time. From perfect dodges that stun enemies to health-restoring war cries, Stenton’s “symphony of the combat sandbox” provides plenty of ways to enhance your chosen playstyle as discussed in our latest Dead Island 2 preview and interview with Dambuster.

Dead Island 2 Trailers

Prior to the groundbreaking E3 2014 zombie transformation cinematic, Dead Island 2 had few trailer releases. However, during Gamescom 2022 Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios unveiled a brand-new reveal trailer and some up-to-date in-game footage.

Take a look at the development journey below. First is the Dead Island E3 2014 announcement trailer to refresh your memory.

Deep Silver is confident that Dead Island 2’s combat is “best in class,” according to their FLESH system. They aim for “an intense, visceral, and gory first-person experience.” Players can expect a wide selection of weapons for all six playable characters – each with their own personality traits, dialogue options, and starting skill cards – in this thrilling first-person experience.

What’s more, each character’s abilities can be fully customized using the innovative skill deck system, enabling players to experiment with different builds on the spot.

In Dead Island 2, players will navigate a blood-soaked Los Angeles, exploring iconic locations like Beverly Hills’ suburban neighborhoods and Venice Beach’s sunny promenade. Of course, LA is filled with zombies and weapons – making it the ideal battleground for this co-op action game.

Players will select one of six main characters, known as Slayers, and once their choice has been made, there will be no option for swapping characters.

Dead Island 2 Co-Op

The co-op feature in Dead Island 2 is quite captivating. While playing solo can be enjoyed to full capacity, teaming up with two friends in threes promises an exhilarating experience. Deep Silver guarantees “replayability” as teams unravel its “thrilling” pulp story and engage with its diverse characters within a “twisted” universe

However, how this will be implemented – whether it’s available from the start or integrated into story mode similar to Dying Light 2 remains uncertain.

Dead Island 2 Development

Dead Island 2 has had an arduous journey to its current stage. Yager Development began working on the sequel in 2012, long before it was officially announced at E3 2014. In the subsequent year, Sumo Digital assumed control of the development process, and then Dead Island 2’s primary development responsibilities were handed over to the current developers, Dambuster Studios, three years prior in 2019.

Due to the limited information and updates by developers, it is hard to determine how different Dead Island 2 will be from its original concept. But we can expect additional details and updates before the game’s release. Especially now that the Dead Island 2 launch date is officially out.
