Diablo 4 DDOS attack ruins weekend for gamers

In the midst of a perfect weekend of gaming, fans of Blizzard’s lineup, including the much-anticipated Diablo 4, evergreen World of Warcraft, adrenaline-packed Call of Duty, and the sequel of a fan-favorite, Overwatch 2, found their plans thwarted.

Instead of immersing themselves in epic battles and adventures, they were forced to stare at the dreaded Battle.net launcher’s connection error message.

Blizzard’s customer support Twitter account became a beacon of truth in these desperate times, confirming the bleak reality – a merciless DDoS attack was hammering the Battle.net servers.

These servers are the heart and soul of Blizzard’s universe on PC, hosting a plethora of popular titles from the CoD franchise, including the recently unveiled Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.

“We continue to actively monitor an ongoing DDOS attack which is affecting latency/connections to our games,” tweeted Blizzard CS, only adding to the gamers’ heartache.

The sweet rhythm of gameplay was brutally disrupted for many, the weekend grind coming to a painful standstill. However, Blizzard wasn’t going down without a fight. “Actively working to mitigate this issue,” they reassured, with a pop-up message in the Battle.net launcher, coupled with a stark red exclamation mark to draw attention to the crisis.

Their battle started early in the morning, with an investigation into a rather peculiar issue.

Blizzard’s CS tweet reported, “We’re currently investigating an issue affecting our authentication servers, which may result in failed or slow login attempts,” revealing a troublesome start to an otherwise gaming-filled weekend.

So, as the gaming world holds its collective breath, we wait in the hopes that the server issues will soon be vanquished, and gamers of all stripes can dive back into their beloved games before the dreaded Monday rolls around.
