The Lord of The Rings Gollum PS5

Back in November 2020, Jonas Husges from Daedalic Entertainment stated to Official PlayStation Magazine that the upcoming game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will utilize the latest PS5 technology. According to Husges, players will feel more connected to Gollum’s actions. As the game will directly reflect his physical exhaustion when he runs out of stamina. This suggests that The Lord of the Rings Gollum will take advantage of the PS5 DualSense controller’s haptic feedback feature. Which will likely provide more resistance to the triggers when Gollum is tired or strained.

In the same interview, Husges spoke highly of the PS5’s SSD part. He believes it will help the upcoming game Lord of the Rings Gollum reduce loading times and create a large, explorable world. This also means Gollum’s world will have very good lighting.

According to Daedalic art director Mathias Fischer, the clean shadows with ray tracing will be useful in guiding players to build stealth passages. When Gollum moves through the darkness, the dynamic and moving light sources will make it more challenging. All of these things will make the game feel vast. And the open-world environments will look as impressive as Middle-earth deserves.

Daedalic Entertainment has some exciting details about its upcoming video game following J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series. According to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, LOTR: Gollum will take place in the years following Gollum’s acquisition of the one ring. This means that it is set before the events of The Lord of the Rings.

The CEO and co-founder of Daedalic Entertainment, Carsten Fichtelmann, say that the game will delve into everything that Gollum did before the books.

Specifically, the game will begin in Barad-dur, a Mordor fortress where Gollum is being held against his will. The game will follow Gollum’s journey as he tries to escape the tower and venture beyond Mordor to other parts of Middle-earth.

Daedalic’s recent press release tells more about the game’s story. Describing it as a look at Gollum’s experiences “behind the scenes” in the first chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring. Players will get to explore the murky bits of lore that Tolkien didn’t fully explore in his books. Affording the developers a lot of creative freedom to tell their own stories.

The first gameplay reveals from Daedelic shows Gollum attempting to reach a gate and free himself from the tower once and for all. In addition to Mordor, players will also get to visit the land of the elves and interact with a variety of Lord of the Rings characters.

Lord of The Rings Gollum Characters

The upcoming Lord of the Rings: Gollum game offers a range of friendly or unfriendly faces. The game will have some well-known characters such as the Nazgul, King Thranduil, and Gandalf.

Thranduil, the father of Legolas, will make an appearance in the realm of Mirkwood. Moreover, the game will introduce some new characters like Mell, a young elf. Who Gollum encounters in Mirkwood, and Greshneg, whom we will meet in Barad-Dur.

But one thing worth noting is that Gollum’s not the same in this game. According to producer Kai Fiebig, the team came up with the essence of Gollum’s character. And then evolved him to depict the person he was before the Ring caught him.

Therefore, players should not expect to see or hear an Andy Serkis lookalike in the game when it finally releases!

Lord of the Rings Gollum Gameplay

The initial gameplay reveal gives us a glimpse into stealth-oriented capabilities. And parkour skills Gollum can employ as he traverses each stage. Since he cannot overcome adversaries by directly engaging in combat, he must depend on his ability to sense sounds and see in darkness to exploit unlit areas to outmaneuver his foes.

With 500 years of experience, Gollum is a freestyle climber. He can leap across platforms, dangle from ledges, and squeeze through narrow spaces to elude or bypass enemies. Players must be cautious of Gollum’s stamina gauge when performing any action that demands physical exertion, as it depletes with each forceful act.

An aspect of the gameplay will also concentrate on Gollum’s internal struggle with his Hobbit alter ego, Smeagol. CEO Carsten Fichtelmann mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that Gollum “already has that big conflict in the character… which means there is a good reason there are decisions to make in the game: the Smeagol decisions or the Gollum decision.” At present, these choices appear as dialogue responses or decisions that demonstrate his contrasting personas on-screen. However, Daedalic says that this system is still subject to modification while the game remains in development.

In their most recent release, Daedalic shows us a stealth gameplay trailer that features Gollum covertly navigating various locations within the game world. Leveraging his diminutive size, the protagonist can be seen utilizing shadows to his benefit, evading nearby enemies. A fleeting appearance of Shelob is also shown in the trailer.

In line with their vision, Daedalic is determined to bypass the “uncanny valley” by opting for a striking aesthetic rather than pure realism.

As Fichtelmann mentions in the preliminary report, the objective is to create “something that makes a statement.”

Gollum’s transformation into a hunched, grotesque creature is sure to be nothing short of memorable. The game has ample opportunity to incorporate elements of the horror genre, given the variety of menacing creatures in Tolkien’s world.

By placing the player in the role of an unconventional protagonist, Daedalic has the chance to emphasize the overwhelming dread of confronting Tolkien’s monstrous beings as a vulnerable, unarmed character like Gollum, rather than as a formidable wizard or warrior king.

Lord of the Rings Gollum – Verdict

The game seems poised to evoke a range of distinct emotions in players, potentially fostering a more compassionate and empathetic connection to the monstrous being than previously experienced in the literary works.

Gollum, as an inherently tragic figure, offers ample opportunities for exploration, particularly for a developer well-versed in crafting divergent storylines.
