Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Release Date & More

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the highly anticipated action-adventure sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is in development under Respawn Entertainment. The publisher of this fantasy game will be Electronic Arts. Star Wars Jedi Survivor PS4, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S will be available on April 28, 2023. It is also Electronic Arts’ final Star Wars game under their exclusivity contract with Lucasfilm.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Trailer

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s unexpected unveiling at the 2022 Star Wars Celebration caught fans by surprise. The initial trailer conveys an atmosphere of the somber odyssey. Featuring Cal Kestis looking visibly worn from years of evading Empire control.

Furthermore, our beloved droid companion BD-1 joins us too. While subtle clues hint that his carefully crafted lightsaber from Jedi: Fallen Order may fall into Inquisitor’s hands. And that the Stinger Mantis vessel could face retirement soon enough.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Combat

The new game retains many gameplay elements from its predecessor while adding new ones.

Cal Kestis, the protagonist, can choose five distinct lightsaber stances. It could be a single-blade, double-blade, or dual-wield. As well as Kylo Ren’s crossguard version.

Players must determine which weapon works best against different enemy types while Force stasis lets them freeze enemies or shooter bolts midair.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Level Design

Jedi: Survivor offers larger maps filled with NPCs. Koboh is more open and expansive, featuring Mantis landing pads centered for easier access. Koboh serves as a “home away from home” that players can return to throughout the game, unlocking new pathways and customization options along the way.

Jedi Chamber Trials, similar to Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, provide puzzles and challenges that reward players with skill points for their skill tree.

Jedi: Survivor offers more cosmetic customization options than its counterpart, Fallen Order; players can alter Cal’s outfits, hairstyles, and facial hair to their liking.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Settings

It’s possible that Respawn had a valid reason for modeling Cal Kestis so precisely after actor Cameron Monaghan. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is set to unfold during a crucial time in the Star Wars timeline. With its events coinciding with those of the Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series.

Speculation has been rife for weeks that Monaghan’s Kestis might make an appearance in Obi-Wan, a notion that gained traction when Ewan McGregor mentioned the necessity for his Disney+ show to “match up” with the events and lore of the video games.

Considering the significant role of The Inquisitors in the Star Wars Jedi games, and with Obi-Wan encountering surviving Jedi in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, some level of crossover appears to be within the realm of possibility.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up five years after the events of Jedi: Fallen Order. This is when Cal Kestis forsook his chance to revive the Jedi Order. Expect a more somber tone in this sequel as Cal is thrust into “an increasingly desperate struggle as the galaxy spirals further into darkness.”

Furthermore, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor follows Cal as he fights to defend himself, his crew, and the legacy of the Jedi Order as The Dark Times close in.

Who is Cal Kestis in real life?

Cal Kestis was designed in the likeness of its voice actor, Cameron Monaghan. Since 2002, Monaghan’s acting career has blossomed, culminating in his role as Ian Gallagher on Shameless and twin brothers Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska on Gotham – integral characters in The Joker’s origin story.

The sequel to Fallen Order was officially announced in January 2022, with its title revealed during Star Wars Celebration 2022 in May. This game takes advantage of next-gen console capabilities for improved load times and performance.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Release Date & Marketing

In May 2022, a cinematic teaser debuted. On December 8th at The Game Awards, an expanded gameplay reveal followed. Initially set for March 17th, 2023, the release date was later delayed to April 28th due to final polish and bug fixes.

Pre-orders come with exclusive cosmetic sets as well as a tie-in novel Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars which bridges the story gap between both games.

Future of Star Wars

In an IGN interview, game director Stig Asmussen revealed plans for a Star Wars: Jedi trilogy, with a potential third installment using Unreal Engine 5. This is enough to give us, Star War’s die-hard fans, a ray of hope.
