Super Smash Bros Melee Tier List

Super Smash Bros Melee (SSBM) is a creative take on fighting from Nintendo that was first available only in Japan and North America. Over the last two decades since its release in 2001, the Super Smash Bros Melee tier list has seen various changes and updates and it’s still a fresh and engaging time-killer.

What sets SSBM apart from other fighting games is its unique gameplay mechanics. Unlike other games in the genre, the characters in SSBM have simple moves that don’t require complex button inputs to defeat opponents.

Despite its simplicity, or maybe it is the reason, SSBM has raked in more viewers than expected. It sold over 7 million copies to date. It’s no surprise that SSBM is often considered one of the best GameCube games of all time!

SS Tier

Fox is a character in SSBM, known for his lightning-fast speed and devastating moves. All these qualities combined make Fox a hard opponent to fight. And for this reason, he’s one of the top characters in the game.

Fox is a skilled fighter, capable of executing impressive combos that deal significant damage to his opponents. Despite his many strengths, Fox is not without his weaknesses. His high falling speed leaves him vulnerable to combos, and his lightweight can put him in danger during battle. Nevertheless, his resilience to KO and impressive skill set make him a formidable opponent on the battlefield.

S Tier

Another popular SSBM character is Falco. Although he’s the counterpart to Fox, their moves and abilities differ greatly. Despite this, Falco is highly regarded, holding the impressive rank of 2nd in the tier list and making him one of the top playable characters available.

Falco’s move set is highly versatile, allowing him to execute devastating combos that can leave his enemies reeling. His back air, forward, and downward smashes are particularly notable, and can deal significant damage to opponents.

However, Falco is not without his weaknesses. His light weight and high falling speed make him vulnerable to a variety of combos, and his recovery moves are somewhat lacking. Despite these flaws, Falco’s impressive abilities and high ranking make him a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

Sheikh is a highly skilled and enigmatic warrior who ranks in the S tier list. Originally a modification of Zelda, she has her own unique down special move that sets her apart. She held the top spot in the tier list for some time but was overtaken by Fox.

Despite this, Sheikh remains a versatile and formidable player, possessing a range of special moves such as combo attacks, chain throws, and aerial jumps. However, she’s not without her weaknesses.

Her light weight makes her vulnerable to being KO’d, and her strategy can be flawed at times. Nevertheless, her impressive strengths and unique abilities make her a valuable addition to any player’s roster.

A Tier

Captain Falcon

Captain Falcon is an SSBM character, known for his impressive strength and unique moves. He’s currently ranked 8th among the 26 playable characters after a slight drop from 3rd out of 12.

melee tier list

One of Captain Falcon’s standout qualities is his remarkable combo abilities, which can quickly put opponents in danger. He’s also highly agile. This makes him the fastest-moving player of SSBM.

Additionally, his heavyweight makes him a difficult target to KO. His knee smashes, forward smash, and aerial attacks, allow him to become one of the best finishers in the game.

However, like all characters, Captain Falcon is not without his weaknesses. His poor recovery moves can make him vulnerable in certain situations, and his high air speed can limit his ability to travel greater distances. Still, Falcon’s impressive strength and skill set make him a valuable player on any team roaster.

Ice Climbers

The Ice Climbers are a unique and highly ranked character in the game, coming in at 7th place thanks to their impressive wobbling and DE synching abilities. What sets them apart is their two-in-one nature – both climbers have nearly identical moves, making them a formidable force on the battlefield. They’re strong and are able to deal mega damage to their opponents with ease.

melee tier list

However, Ice Climbers are not without their weaknesses. Their air game is somewhat lacking, and their floating ability makes them extremely vulnerable to combos. Also, if one of them is down, you can damage a significant amount of power, making them easier to defeat. Even with these flaws, Climbers impress us with their skill set.

B Tier

Pikachu is a beloved SSBM character announced in 2001. Like Kirby and Ness, Pikachu has made the transition from Melee into the original game. Although he’s ranked 7th and placed in tier list B, he’s still a formidable opponent on the battlefield.

melee tier list

One of his key strengths is impressive speed. This allows him to move quickly and evade attacks. He also has plenty of KO options that are difficult to defend against. Additionally, Pikachu has a long and safe recovery, making him a tough target to take down. Pikachu’s prowess to complete complex moves with precision is also a notable thing.

C Tier

Dr. Mario

Mario is a well-known SSBM character in the gaming industry. He’s actually a duplicate of the popular starter character, Dr. Mario, and the two share many common attributes and moves. While Mario is ranked 15th out of 26 and placed in tier list C, he’s still a formidable character on the battlefield.

melee tier list

One of Mario’s standout qualities is his impressive strength, which allows him to easily put opponents in trouble. His up and down movements are particularly noteworthy, enabling him to chain-grab his opponents and deal out significant damage. However, like all characters, Mario is not without his flaws. His recovery moves are somewhat lacking, which can make him vulnerable in certain situations. While he can extend his recovery, it can also make his moves feel monotonous and predictable.

D Tier

Mario is an iconic SSBM character. While he has a twin in the form of Dr. Mario, who looks exactly like him and shares many of his moves and traits, Mario remains the more widely recognized of the two. Despite this, he’s ranked 15th out of the 26 playable characters and placed in tier list D, which is lower than Dr. Mario’s ranking.

melee tier list

One of Mario’s standout qualities is his exceptional combo abilities, which can easily demoralize even the most obstinate of rivals. He’s also known for his strong back hold throw, which can KO many of his foes with ease. But, Mario is not one of the best finishers in the game, His weak recovery also makes him a predictable target on the battlefield. Nevertheless, his iconic status and impressive skill set continue to make him a fan favorite.

Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong is an OG player who has made a triumphant return to SSBM with faster moves and greater agility than ever before. While ranked 17th out of the 26 playable characters, Donkey Kong is still a hard opponent on the battlefield.

melee tier list

One of his standout qualities is his weight, this makes him extremely difficult to knock out. He’s highly resistant to combos and can withstand even the deadliest of attacks. But this same heavy weight can also make him vulnerable to certain combos. Keep this in mind when playing or against him.

E Tier

Roy is an SSBM character who is actually a duplicate of Martha, and the two share many identical moves. They still differ in their approach to the game. Both Mark and Roy are hidden characters, but Roy is ranked 20th in the tier list.

melee tier list

One of Roy’s key weaknesses is his high vulnerability to combos and chain grabs, which is due in part to his very high falling speed and poor recovery. Additionally, his short-range attack can be a disadvantage in certain situations. But Roy still has much to offer as a player, and his unique skill set and approach make him a valuable addition to any team.

Zelda is a highly unique SSBM character, known for her strong magical attacks and her ability to transform into her alter ego whenever the need arises. This alter ego is entirely different from Zelda, but they both work together to achieve their goals. Despite her impressive abilities, Zelda is ranked 22nd in the list of playable characters.

melee tier list

One of Zelda’s standout qualities is her remarkable combo abilities, and she’s particularly well-known for her lightning kick. Her weaknesses include poor agility, which is due in part to her slow dash speed. Despite this flaw, Zelda remains a valuable player on any team, thanks to her unique skill set and powerful magical abilities.

F Tier

Pichu is another pokemon character that SSBM adapted. Pichu is actually Pikachu’s son. You can take him as a lighter, smaller and faster clone of Pikachu.

melee tier list

Ranked 24th makes him the lowest-ranked character in the game. Due to its light weight, Pichu is easily chain thrown by most of its competitors. This clone has the worst match-up character in the game.
